MAX MCGEE'S PROFILE
I CAN'T NOT MAKE GAMES.
I have enough lockerspace to hold an episode of Friends.
"We'll make a toast to absent friends and better days,
To remembering and being remembered as brave
And not as a bunch of whining jerks!
Don't lose your nerve.
Do not go straight
You must testify
(or I'm going to come to your house and punch you in the mouth)
cause CLOWNS MUST STAND."

LOGO QUEST CONTEST (Massive EXP Bonus)
The website http://ghostlightgames.net/, a home on the net for Ghostlight Studio's creative projects of all stripes, designed by the talented and dedicated Otokonoko, is in need of a logo, as humorously referenced on our (still under construction, pardon our dust) home page.
This logo will ideally be scalable to a number of sizes (as a baseline, use the rough size and shape of the 'empty' panel at the top of the home page. No taller or wider than that, starting out.)
In addition to lingering at the masthead of our website this logo will also be used in the credits of several of my games, so it does in fact belong in this particular forum as it is a game request. Please use the layout, colors and styles of the home page as a guideline to creating a logo that meshes well. So try and avoid clashing, please.
Our old logo looked like this:

We're not asking you to recreate that, by all means, if you have a better idea, go with that. We just thought we'd provide this for reference.
Whoever's logo or logos we use, will receive something significantly less substantial than actual money dollars, but significantly more substantial than nothing at all. This can include bonus content pertaining to one of my games or my help on one of your projects or any number of other little bonuses.
Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I really look forward to seeing what everyone can produce.

3 HOUR COMPETITION RESULTS REVIEWED AND AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD (capslock ftw)
Okay, time is always an issue for me lately, so here is the quick and dirty (no screenshots or anything) 3-Hour Round-Up!
To conclude the Max McGee's three hour makeoff event.
I am having some technical difficulties with hosting right now, so stay tuned for missing DL links to reappear.
The Purse Snatcher
Great Red Spirit
DL: http://grs.negative0.net/RPGMaker/ThePurseSnatcher.zip
Recap:
As perhaps the lamest super villain ever, the purse snatcher, your power is to...flee. At moderate speed. Through an endlessly scrolling background and a series of inexplicable obstacles. This game is mildly entertaining and impressively complete considering the time it was made in, just half of the time of most of these three hours. In other words, this is a basically working minigame, in 90 minutes. In the words of Darth Vader..."Impressive".
Calculator
Great Red Spirit
DL: http://chaosproductions.neg0.ca/RPGmaker/Other Projects/calculator.rar
Recap:
If you are a real man, you will at least try to do this math based game without a calculator. In short, the cohesiveness of vision and how "complete" it feels impressed me. Also it is very silly.
I Expect You To Die
Kentona
DL: http://kentona.rpgmaker.net/misc/SuperDuper.rar
Recap:
This very very silly game by Kentona that contains an incredible not one, not two, not three, not four, but at least five (kind of) working mini-games, a SECRET VOLCANO LAIR, and a good spoof of Bondesque antics and Bond villains. If the three hour competition had a winner, this would be it.
Everything Turns Technicolour
Little Wing Guy
DL: http://kentona.rpgmaker.net/3Hour/Everything%20Turns%20Technicolour.rar
Recap:
This is everything I expect from a three hour. Overly ambitious, buggy as hell, and truncated at the three minute mark in a HILARIOUSLY abrupt manner, which marks the most amusing use of the "Show Choice" command I have ever seen.
Untitled
Fractal Advocate
DL: http://kentona.rpgmaker.net/3Hour/3_hour_game.rar
Recap:
Another silly game (shocker) with some pretty clever ideas (mechanically) that are hampered by (understandably) boring, tedious, and poorly balanced boss battles. Also, the humor as hit and miss. All in all, pretty good for a three-hour.
Rampage
Max McGee
DL: http://kentona.rpgmaker.net/3Hour/Rampage.rar
(Warning: File is ludicrously bloated with unnecessary resources because I kind of dumped all my resources in it at the start of the comp and did not get a chance to RM Tool it before the time was up. That's okay, it's still pretty small by today's standards.)
Recap/Author's Explanation:
The only project done for the three hour that wasn't silly, by intention or otherwise. What I did for this was I, in quick sketch, created my own comic book super villain, with his own set of powers, and also created an even rougher sketch of the world he lived in and the forces at work there.
The villain's name is Sigil, and the source of his power is occult in nature; he has sold various parts of his body and spirit to demons in exchange for dark power. He can use magic to turn invisible, drain the life force of his enemies, call hellfire, kill enemies, and reanimate the dead. Because he's a comic book villain, he's also no slouch with his fists and feet, and has used magic to make himself super strong, super fast, etc. Essentially an evil version of Marvel comics' Dr. Strange.
Then I made perhaps a single 22 page comic books' worth of action/entertainment, where you play as the bad guy, kill cops, fight super heroes, and so forth. Combat was balanced to be semi-balanced but to still make you feel like a badass; it also has something that you'll never see in any other RPG, a death spell that actually works a reasonable percent of the time.
I would really love some feedback on this. I think it is very representative of the BEST I can do with RM2k3 in three hours at this stage in my career. Also, I included passing reference to both the Medieval France and zombie themes.

The fear and the hunger are upon me...
A Terrifying Look Into The Mind And Game-Making Habits of Maximillian Q. McGee Esq.
Oh dear God. After playing Geondun by Craze and peeking at the bewildering array of mechanics on display there, I had a terrible, forbidden urge, a desire I am desperate to suppress.
I had the desire to create a new game.
Just so you know why I would be hesitant to create a new game, let me break out my roster/resume...
GAMES CURRENTLY 'IN DEVELOPMENT' (Not Active Development. Just Uncanceled.)
*Everything Turns Gray (RMVX)
*Mage Duel (RMVX)
*Starseed (RMVX)
*Backstage 2 (RM2k3)
*Ruptured Souls (Rm2k3)
In other words, I have no less than 5 GAMES I consider to be currently in development.
GAMES CURRENTLY 'IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT'
*Everything Turns Gray (RMVX). And even then, only kind of.
So yes, that is a lot of games. Let's look at my track record for juggling projects. How many I've caught (released) and how many I've dropped (canceled):
GAMES I HAVE ACTUALLY COMPLETED
*Iron Gaia (RM2K)
*Backstage (RM2k3)
*Iron Gaia: Virus (RM2k3)
*Vermicide (RMVX)
So that's the good news. But on the other hand...
GAMES I HAVE CANCELED, PUT ON INDEFINITE HIATUS, OR OTHERWISE UNOFFICIALLY GIVEN UP ON (I'll try to restrict myself to only the ones I've publicly advertised, but don't be surprised if you've never heard of some of these.)
*Eldritch (RPG Maker 2003)
*Between Two Worlds (RPG Maker 2003)
*Wanderers: Tetra (Code-Off Project, RPG Maker 2003)
*The Shallow Sea (First Quarter 2004, RMXP)
*Iron Gaia 2 (RMXP)
*Shadowrun: Missions (RPG Maker 2003)
*Immortal Hunger (RPG Maker 2003)
*The Tower (RPG Maker 2000)
*Moment of Truth (RPG Maker 2000)
And that is leaving off probably between six and a doze smaller, even more obscure projects that got even less far in their development.
So clearly my juggling track record is not good.
OTHER THINGS GOING ON IN MY LIFE
*Possible new telecommuting job editing dissertations as an independent contractor for a large academic editing/consultation firm. (~50% Chance of Panning Out)
*Possible new actual job with the US Census. (>50% Chance of Panning Out)
*Regular participation in/mentoring of a 4-years-running LARP I wrote and set-up at my old university.
*Finally editing my ridiculously bloated 190,000+ word dark fantasy novel, started in high school, finished early in college.
*GMing an ongoing once-weekly Shadowrun campaign with adventures I author myself.
*Unproductive distractions, such as playing Hero's Realm, Geondun, Resident Evil 5, and god knows what other commercial games in the coming weeks.
*A girlfriend! (If people have been dating more than a couple years, are they engaged by default? :P )
*And much, much more.
So obviously there are just some of the many reasons that I should not, not, not, not ever, ever start a new game. But still the urge is strong enough that I actually went ahead and burned 30 minutes making this topic, instead of just smacking myself briskly across the face and saying, NO, MAX, THAT'S A BAD MAX. The urge is STRONG.
What should I do? Give in to the dark side or staunchly refuse my own Craze-like urges?
Please choose one.
1. "Yeah, go for it, why the hell not!"
2. "Are you fucking insane? No, of course you should not start another game."

Everything Turns Gray - Beta Results In/I NEED A FATIGUE BAR

Essentially, what the topic says. I need one to five beta testers willing to start testing the game IMMEDIATELY and return results by no later than MONDAY. I know that people (Tyranos, GRS, Craze) have expressed interest in the past but I've lost track of who's in and who's out so please RE-SIGN-UP here. I would really like to get five semi-reliable people in case three of them bail.
Aprilschild, if you want in on this, please sign up in this topic as well as everyone else, although I understand if you're not feeling up to it/are too busy.
This is time sensitive and work intensive. I need you guys to try every playable class and area and provide not just a complete list of bug fixes (the sooner the better) but also detailed notes on game balance.
EVERYONE WHO SIGNS UP PLEASE IMMEDIATELY PM ME OR POST WITH ALL YOUR CONTACT INFO. THE VERSION OF THE GAME I NEED TO BE BETA-TESTED IS NOT THE PUBLIC OPEN BETA AVAILABLE ON THE SITE. It's a "complete" demo version, with much more content too, but it hasn't been beta tested.
Every single beta tester will have my gratitude, I will owe them one, and they will be fully credited in the game's opening and (when finished) closing credits. That is all I can offer for now.
Guys I have completely lost interest in game making over the last few months. This is a chance for you to restore it, if anyone still cares!
OFFICIAL SIGN UP SHEET
1. Great Red Spirit (for Wednesday)
2. Fallen Griever
3. Darken
4. Tyranos
5.
+ (Azn Chipmunk)
This was a pretty big success, and I think I've gotten everything out of it that I'm going to, except Darken's report.
By far the most important thing I have learned is that I need a fatigue bar. I'm counting on you, GRS.
THE OSCARS ARE FUCKING BULLSHIT (excuse my french)
Now, I don't want to get off on a rant here, but...
Never has it been more clear than this year what a stupid popularity contest it is. It makes me really angry all the poltiics involved.
Every single award had a remix of the same ten nominees, and more or less was won by one of the following five, in descending order:
Slumdog Millionaire (a good movie, but did it need to win absolutely EVERYTHING?)
Milk (ugh. subject matter = auto win, I guess. Indian and gays are hot this year.)
Doubt (STFU phillip seymour hoffman.)
The Reader (nazis apparently still = win)
Revolutionary Road (who even cares)
The Dark Knight (default, but also took home surprisingly few)
Truly ridiculous was the snubbing of really great movies (Does anyone remember "In Bruges"? Or "Burn After Reading"? Clearly not.) and the complete fucking ostracization of Clint Eastwood who made BOTH of the best movies of 2008, "Gran Torino" and "Changeling".
Now Slumdog is a fantastic picture, don't get me wrong, but...
Seriously, Clint did not even receive a nomination for best actor in Gran Torino, directing himself, at the age of 78, and delivering a truly fantastic performance. Instead, THAT GUY was nominated for some movie I've never heard of. Could the snubbing be any more clear cut and obvious?
How come Heath Ledger (mediocre actor, life tragically cut-short, great final performance) dying equals auto-win for best supporting but Clint Eastwood (legendary actor and unbelievably brilliant director, almost certainly going to die in the next decade, great self-directed final performance while directing two fantastic movies in one year at the age of 78) did not even receive a NOMINATION for Best Picture, Best Director, or Best Actor?
I mean, I can understand if unbelievably dumb liberal assholes think that because Gran Torino has a racist character in it, it is innately racist in spite of its ultimate message of tolerance and redemption, but what about fucking Changeling?
The fact of the matter is, Clint should have won all three of those categories, and he wasn't even nominated for any of them. Instead, Slumdog won everything.
Now again, none of this BS is really NEW but this is definitely the worst I have ever seen it.
It is a scary place we're at right now where I have more faith in the Misaos than the Oscars.

ADDITIONAL MISAO ERRORS
Alright I know this is probably too little, too late, but I just realized that some of the misao categories are dauntingly, incredibly vague, making nominations very difficult.
Just as an off-the-cuff for instance, the "Best Music" category...is that supposed to be best ORIGINAL music, or best USE of music? I enjoyed the music in Phantom Legacy more than the music in Dragoon Legends, but of course the music in Phantom Legacy was just stolen from squaresoft games, whereas the music for Dragoon Legends was written for Dragoon Legends?
Same goes with best graphics/artwork, etcetera.
Could I have some clarification here? Even knowing that given categories are MEANT to be subjective would be helpful? As nominations are about to end, this is very time sensitive.

Hey where is my Max Mcgee?!

Aedemphia [NOT MINE]
This is basically the best looking game I have EVER seen.
IT IS NOT MINE.
IT WAS MADE IN FRENCH BY A FRENCH GUY CALLED SYLVANOR AND IS BEING TRANSLATED INTO ENLGISH BY A GUY CALLED CREATION.
I jacked this from GW just so those of you who don't go there could see this. I know we don't normally do this kind of thing but I made an exception for this game, and I hope you can see why. This is something that has to be be scene to be believed:
Obviously, guys, we cannot compete with ZE FRENCH. Let's hope the German RPG Makers go to war with them and kick their asses so we have to bail them out.
If I was a certain other Frenchmen, just the sight of this would make me choke to death on my own bullshit.

Hello everyone,

- 703 objets (including the equipment)
- More than a 100 spells.
- 30 cinématiques en "dessin animé"
- 10 Optional bosses (not including the compulsory bosses)

So what's the story?
Here it is, a summary of the prologue:
Irzyka is the protagonist of this epic tale, the daugher of the Great Urtypzall. Born in a ruined world littered with garbage, she is spared the atrocities or her homeland, sheltered in her father's castle, Isoloir.
Raised by a duo consisting of her own brother, Alzarith, and a local scientist, Irzyka was never in direct contact with the realities of the outside world.
Her tranquil lifestyle was suddenly shattered when she was finally kidnapped by a young man named Erun. He opened her eyes on the miserable lifestyle of the others living outside the castle, the Inferiors.
It wasn`t long before Irzyka became close friend with Erun and the Inferiors.
A short while later, Irzyka and Erun discovered a project taking place in Castle Isoloir, under the direction of Creas himself; establish a “bridge†between Irzyka's homeworld and another one, Estarzall, in order to migrate to finally leave the wastelands of her homeworld.
It is then revealed that Erun was created with a sole purpose in mind: he is the Key, he is meant to power the Bridge, the contraption designed to act as a portal between the two worlds.
Erun ultimately sacrifies himself and a Breach is created between Irzika's homeworld and Estarzall. The experiment has a disastrous impact on the filth covered homeworld; it is entirely destroyed along with its inhabitants.
Irzyka is the sole survivor of a world which has now ceased to exist…
After wandering for a while in this estranged world, Irzyka discovers a small village, Iflare.
Before long, she becomes acquainted with Ufa and his master Egaj. Ufa reveals that he is wandering the desertic lands, raising an army to avenge his deceased parents, killed by a mysterious individual known only as Heartless Soul, a bloodthisty tyrant of Hyurne, capital of the desert.
And so she once again became friends with two strangers from a world not her own and thanks to them discovered the world of Estarzall.
Throughout their numerous adventures in this world, they were confronted by the Four Avatars, four semi-gods, awakened from their slumber for some unknown reason.
As years went by, the army thrived.
Ufa eventually a fully grown man and was finally leading the army he sought all those years.
His army was formed of people from the four corners of Estarzall and supported by the village of Iflare itself.
With such a force under his command, Ufa and his comrades marched upon Hyurne…

Obviously, guys, we cannot compete with ZE FRENCH. Let's hope the German RPG Makers go to war with them and kick their asses so we have to bail them out.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!
In nine minutes and counting, for me anyway.
The point of this thread? Post your Christmas message/greeting when the hour strikes Christmas. Very moronic, I know, but tis the season.
Best wishes for the holidays,
-Max McGee
P.S. Might be mistaken but I think this is the first/last topic I've ever made in Moronic Stuff!
OOPS.
Wierd & kinda serious problem.
I can't click on the menu bar on the top of the site. I mean, I can, but nothing happens. Forums and Misaos link to their respective pages but I don't get the popup applety things for games, resources, or search. Likewise I can't get into my account stuff when I click account.
EDIT:
Okay this really WAS happening (not my imagination) but it just went away. Has anyone else experienced this?
